A New Dog Park is Coming to Middle Island!!!!!

A nine acre dog park is in the works for Middle Island east of the former KMart property in Middle Island!!!!! The site will have 2 separate areas for large and small pups, and will be the FIRST DOG PARK IN THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN!!!!  This dog park will be  staffed by an attendant on duty during hours of operation, feature paved  leashed walking trails, 2 separate double gated entries on each end featuring "airlock" gates,  5 foot fencing with double rails, and will be the largest dog park in New York!!!  SCU also requested a "time out" area measuring 11 feet long by 11 feet wide for the shy,overanxious, and sometimes misbehavin' pups, and this will be a first for any dog park on Long Island !!! Ms. Kepert recently secured funding in the amount of $100,000 earmarked for the off leash area, and we are anticipating an April 2008 opening. Suffolk County Unleashed will be planning a "Blessing of the Park and Pups" for the grand opening ceremony tentatively scheduled for the spring, and will notify all members regarding this exciting event!  This dog park will fulfill SCU'S dream of the dog park as a venue for hosting adoption events and fundraisers for rescue groups, and dog training classes to teach responsible pet ownership.  Our organization is extremely grateful to Ms. Kepert for sincerely pushing the concept of an off leash area, and recognizes that her efforts will pave the way for other dog parks within Brookhaven Town!!!!
